An underrated museum. It is well organized and offers a clear view of Madrid's history from an obviously enriching point of view. It is a bit too classical, but they also have more modern temporary exhibitions such as a pandemic photography exhibition that was really beautiful. Also, it is free!

The Museo de Historia de Madrid is a small, but excellent museum of local Madrid history. The only downside to this museum is that not everything has English description. On the upside, it's free and there's more than enough English explanation for so many of the exhibits, it's barely worth complaining about. The collections of fans, porcelain and gallery dedicated to the Dos de Mayo uprising are outstanding. A special honourable mention goes to the \Diana and Endymion\ sculpture which should not be missed. Another hidden gem in Madrid that a little off the main tourist circuit.
I loved it! Still... I have to go back. 3 hours wasn't enough!
Learned a lot about where American history comes from by visiting Spanish museums. Parked one block away and learned a lot of interesting information about Madrid. For example, Madrid was founded due to its ground water, flour mills, and its central location within the peninsula.
We have wondered by this museum on several different trips and finally went in. It is free to enter and has a good collection showcasing Madrid's history. It was a good size, in my opinion. It wasn't so large that you stop absorbing what you're looking at half way through. I enjoyed all the maps and vintage photos of Madrid.
