This statue stands in tribute to Jaime I of Aragon, also known by his epithet, El Conquistador, or the conqueror. As a member of the House of Aragon, he is known for greatly expanded the territories of Aragon as well as being a patron of the arts. The monument is fairly simple and is a slightly larger than life sculpture of the king. He stands upright wearing his royal crown. In front of him is a Norman shield resting on the ground, while a sword is just in front of the shield and also resting on the ground. Only visit if you have time in Figueres.
