Do not go unless you know you can get in. The museum, we were assured by tourist office, would be open until 2pm. The sign outside said the same. We waited while the lady chatted to someone who had entered the museum after we had. She then told us we were too late to enter the museum as now it was one o’clock she was not allowing anyone in. When we protested politely that the tourist office had told us the museum was open until two. We were told “sorry, not today”. As today is our only day in Mahon, and we leave the island on Saturday morning, we were disappointed. This is our first visit to Minorca, and our experience of the museum is sadly negative.

A fantastic museum full of the history of the island of Menorca. It gives a very detailed look into the islands history and inhabitants over the years along with some fascinating artifacts.

My visit to this lovely educational museum was spoilt by an inaccurate video speculating that Jews in Menorca were harshly persecuted in the C12th to C14th by the church in retaliation for an unsupported view that Jews had stoned to death a saint. There is absolutely no evidence to support this slur. It is just an other example of the church “s continuing antisemitic attitude in the present day. I am hoping this museum will immediately withdraw this video recognising that a museum should be objective, truthful and not paying homage to a belief that is antiquated and racial . Dr S Grant

Good little museum. Gives an overview of the while history of the island and has a selection of interesting artefacts. The signage is very informative. The building itself is lovely. Good for an hour or so visit. Free when I went but there is a charge at times.
