I don't think they know what they're doing, half of the time, the organisation, like all charities, are disjointed; where one hand doesn't know what the other one is doing. The people you get to meet; the volunteers, are usually kind and responsive, but that hasn't always been the case, when I first asked the Red Cross, they didn't want to know me because I wasn't muslim enough for the funding and the directives given by government to give priority to muslim refugees. They, the Red Cross, have since set up a frontline support centre a kilometre and a half outside the city centre in the form of a day centre which provides access to washing, laundry and medical facilities. They also have a service which delivers a bag of food to rough sleeping vagrants which has been a real help during the current pandemic and since markets and economy's have crashed leaving people without an income. The Red Cross and the DyA are the most reliable and up front organisations for basic support if you find yourself destitute, and \on your arse\, as they say in parts of the UK.. There are a few other, smaller, charities, locally, that appear only to exploit and/or manipulate those in need if you can avoid them you need to do.
