This monument stands in tribute to Corporal Luis Noval, a Spanish who served in the Spanish Colonial wars in Morocco. He was taken prisoner by the Rif forces, who forced him to take them to the entrance of the Spanish camp. The Spanish soldiers did not shoot when they saw Noval coming, but he shouted out a warning to his comrades that it was an ambush and died in the following firefight. After his death, he was awarded the second class cross of the Military Order of San Fernando. This monument depicts Noval in uniform, marching with his rifle on his shoulder. Behind his is a Spanish women, holding up the Spanish flag to encourage Noval onwards. At the base of the monument you can see the Rif rebels scattering at the sight of Noval. The monument stands in Plaza de Oriente, near the royal palace and worth a visit to get the bit of history. It's lovely to see a nice monument honouring and otherwise ordinary soldier instead of some rich aristocrat.

One of the interesting things to see at Plaza De Oriente is the monument to Luis Noval Ferrao, a heroic Spanish soldier who fought and died during battle in Morocco in 1909. Ferrao was noted for his bravery and heroic fighting, becoming a symbol of national pride and nationalism during the early part of the 20th century. A product of that movement was this bronze statue was created by Spanish sculptor Marino Benlliure in 1912. Here you find a bronze figure, fully dressed in soldiery attire and gear, walking forward in front of a large scale stone flag being held by a female figure. The statue is atop a decorative stone pedestal, with inscription in Spanish. It is a nice war memorial, located at the northern end of Plaza De Oriente in an area referred to locally, and in travel books, as Jardines Del Cabo Noval. It is worth having a quick look if you enjoy seeing monuments during your travels.
En la plaza de Oriente, en unos jardines que llevan su nombre está el monumento del Cabo Noval, heroico soldado que aviso a sus tropas de un emboscada en la guerra de África. Es obra del escultor valenciano Mariano Benlliure. Zona tranquila y muy bonita para pasear.
El monumento obra de Mariano Benlliure fué sufragado por suscripción popular e inaugurado en 1912 por Alfonso XIII en honor al cabo Luis Noval, muerto en 1909 durante la campaña de Marruecos, y por la que fué condecorado a título póstumo con la Laureada de San Fernando. Desgraciadamente las esculturas en piedra se encuentran muy deterioradas.
Monumento en homenaje al cabo Noval muerto en la guerra de África en 1909 cuando avisó a sus compañeros de una emboscada. Lo inauguró en 1912 el Rey Alfonso XIII. Está realizada por el escultor Mariano Benlliure en bronce y su pedestal en piedra.
