Ambience, service and food quality and taste was excellent. The portion is a little small, but the flavors are so rich that if I had more, I wouldn’t enjoy it as much. The only thing that I found shocking was when I ordered earl grey tea with my dessert, and they served me regular black tea. When I asked for the order to be rectified, the waitress that took my order came back to clarify what I had ordered. It was only then that I realized she didn’t understand what my tea order was and assumed it was black tea. She later clarified that they only had black or green tea. A little disappointed that a Michelin star restaurant didn’t have earl grey tea nor knew what it was. That said, everything else was a great experience and I’d definitely recommend this place.

Unfortunately I have to give this place only two stars. The food is really good. We did the tasting menu and everything was exquisite. However, you expect a full experience when dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant. The main issue (which is very important to us) is the pricing on the drinks. This is Spain (not Singapore, New York, Copenhagen) so you expect decent pricing on wines and liquor. We sat down and were asked if we wanted anything to start with. I always go for a dry sherry to start, and the waiter brought a glass (didn’t pour much), of which we only saw the price at the end: 25... this was the most expensive sherry wine on the menu. a friend ordered a rum at the end of the meal, and the Zacapa XO (a phenomenal rum) was over 50 a glass... i like my wines, and made a quick comparison on prices. The previous week I had been to another Michelin guide restaurant (no star but recommended by the guide) and had a bottle of El Puntido, a lovely Rioja, at 40/bottle. Here, El Puntido was over 70... I understand A Barra has a star, but this doesn’t justify these prices. I enjoyed the food but certainly will not be back nor will I recommend it.
The best food and wine experience so far in Madrid. It’s a high end fantastic restaurant. The service of all the staff was perfect, very helpful, always explained the food and gave good suggestions. The wine list is on another level, I’ve never seen such a menu before and is a big feature at this restaurant. The starters were all superb and the main is fantastic. Although not in the photo, the Jamón is from Joselito - which is regarded as the best Jamón in the world and really is. A 5* restaurant !
An amazing gastronomic experience
