Days ago I had one of the worst experience in my life. I was refuse for Ryanair to come back to Ireland where I’ve lived since 5 years ago, just For a total misunderstanding with my ID card. Thankfully, I went to the Irish Embassy in Madrid and Niamh was there, very calm she heard all that happened to me. After 1 day, she help me and sorted everything out for me, I was very upset and In tears those days cuz I was about to start a dream job in Dublin and with my situation I didn’t know how long was about to take to come back. However, Niamh was more that amazing with me, getting done all that she could in order to my come back. I’m so happy cuz when I finally returned I have the chance to get the job and the immigration officer only have to say to me: “WELCOME HOME” Thanks Niamh once again, excellent service.

I recently renewed my passport through the Embassy in Madrid. I complied with with all of the Embassy's administrative requirements including enclosing a self addressed registered envelope. But I never received the passport. Instead I received an email from the embassy informing me that the passport had been returned undelivered a few days beforehand. I queried the reason for the non delivery. But the embassy claimed it was not their responsibility and refused to clarify when exactly it was posted and returned to them and the reason why it was returned, and so I was forced to arrange for a courier to collect it. I do feel that the quality of this passport service could be greatly improved with just a less casual or indifferent attitude and with a little more more effort by the staff involved. In addition I also thought it quite inappropriate to find a staff member smoking a cigarette in a corridor outside the door of the consulate where I initially called for the application form. I have since mentioned this incident to a few Irish friends here in Spain and Ireland. None were really surprised as Dept of Foreign Affairs staff were always viewed as unique and separate and not subject to normal Public Service standards and regulation. What a pity?!

I've dealt with Niamh and Brendan numerous times with visas for my girlfriend to visit Ireland. We've always found them kind and supportive through this process.

Visa enquiries only available between 9:30am and 11am! That must be the longest coffee break in europe there at the embassy! poor.....
