While travelling, we want to have memorable meals but rarely book ahead. We took our chances and rang the doorbell and luckily were seated in an already somewhat full restaurant. We were fortunate, the last admitted on a Thursday night. We settled on the tasting menu of 27.50 euros per person. Take this advice: let the waiter help you with recommendations. The service here is top level, and they can offer superb advice. This led to some great dishes we might not have been inclined to order on our own. Also, ask for recommendations on local wines. Ours was the Rafael Cambra Uno 2012, an excellent Valencia Monastrell at a good price. Outstanding dishes were an incredibly tender octopus topped with sea foam served with crumbled bacon and potatoes, hakefish on pureed spinach with fava beans and carrots, chicken with indian spices and carmelized onions and shallots, and for dessert a dish of brownie, ice cream, white chocolate, and apple cream. Each course was imaginatively presented, and delicious. This was a truly amazing dinner for a reasonable price.
