EAT HERE. I suspect the Lekeitio restaurant scene looks a little different mid-week November than it does at the height of the season. We were driving from Bilbao to San Sebastian exploring the beautiful villages along the coast and arrived in Lekeitio just after 1 pm and hungry but no plan for where to eat. We happened to park nearby, looked in and decided to try it. It was about 1/3 full of workmen. All men. The very pleasant waitress knew little English but knew what we should eat and had our order in about 30 seconds. No messing with a physical menu although there was one. The fish on the handwritten Menu on the door, Cogote de Merlue, (Hake neck) was what to eat. She dragged her hand over her neck to give us some indication of what we were ordering. She took a big family style bowl of soup off the next table to show us the potato and chorizo soup we should order. The fixed price menu which included a bottle of wine for the three of us and desert was 12 Euro. The food was fabulous. Memorable. By the time we left the pace was packed with locals, almost all of them eating the same thing for lunch on a Wednesday in November. When we explored the town many places were open for lunch but only three doing any real business, two at the port and Egaña. Eat here.
