The Plaza Mayor is a breathtaking giant space in the heart of Madrid. It was first built during the reign of Philip III. Called in Spanish the Centro de Turismo de Plaza Mayor, it is a nicely restored and carefully preserved municipal building from 1619.

The Casa de la Panadería, or Bakery House in English is a building that was erected during the construction of the Plaza Mayor. Originally used for various government agencies, it's now used as offices for tourism and there's a tourist information centre on the ground floor. The building is very much in the Flemish style and has two towers and spires. The frescoes in the facade are very beautiful and at the centre of the facade is the Spanish coat of arms. You can't miss this building if visiting Plaza Mayor, so definitely take a close look, it's beautiful and a favourite target of selfie takers.

Was at first ignored. Then was given a map with EVERY icon circled with no conversation and treated like my presence was an inconvenience. On another occasion I asked three questions and was given the responses "Don't know", "Not sure" and "You should probably look it up yourself on Google." Went here on three separate occasions and each time they were more interested in finding out where I was from for their data collection then having eye contact or actually giving a tourist information. Very poor customer service.

Totally useless. I have never been in a tourist information center that was a horrible as this. The staff person spoke poor English and seemed irritated to have to help us. The information she supplied was of no use. Really turned me off on Madrid - sorry I came.
